Sugar skulls are not like their biker or gothic brethren. They are artistic, highly-ornate, and fancy. They scream for attention. To emphasize the Mexican origin of this skull, we put it in a sombrero and adorned with a traditional carved pattern. You can see swirls on the cheekbones and the side of the head as well as milgrain dotted ornamentation around the eye sockets.The core of the pendant is topnotch sterling silver.
We utilized the silver oxidation technique to add more depth to carved patterns as well as polishing to make the whole piece shine. To add some interesting flair to this pendant, we blended silver with brass and copper. The skull’s grin and dotted design are made of brass while the sombrero features a copper finish. We chose these metals for a reason. With time, copper turns green, so together with the parts that are still red plus white silver they will constitute the colors of the Mexican flag.
